Dear Federalsburg Elementary Community,
It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of Federalsburg Elementary School. I hope this letter finds you well as you relax and rejuvenate after all your hard work last school year, and as you prepare for a fun year ahead beginning in August!
The 2022-2023 school year marks my 15th year in education. I am a 2008 graduate of Salisbury University and spent the last 14 years in neighboring Dorchester County, where I taught elementary students for ten years before entering administration. I have spent the last four years in the role of assistant principal at the elementary and middle school levels to prepare me for this current position. When I am not at school, I spend most of my time on the ballfield with my husband Troy and children Ridge, Reid, and Izzy. I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educational leader to the Falcon community while we work together as partners for student success.
It is also my pleasure to welcome another Falcon to the family, our new Assistant Principal Brian Curtis. Mr. Curtis comes to FES from North Caroline High School where he was a Special Education teacher. He also has extensive experience as an administrator in the Christiana School District in Delaware, with the Delaware Department of Education, and as an education and leadership consultant in private industry. I look forward to working with Mr. Curtis who begins at FES this coming Monday.
In order for our Falcons to fly high, I believe that every student can learn and achieve. Our learning paths may look different but every student has the power within them to succeed. I believe we must put our children first and do what is best for them as students. They should be at the center of all of decision making, as they are the reason we are here each day. Providing them with a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn, grow, and thrive every day is of the utmost importance. I embrace all family and community involvement and urge you to become involved. As the African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I intend to create this village for our children by enlisting parents and community members to become volunteers, mentors, or just a friendly face in the school community that I am so proud to be joining.
The last two years have been extremely challenging as we navigated education in the world of a pandemic. It will be my focus to bring back the joy of coming to school in the post-covid environment. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you very soon! Please do not hesitate to reach out with ideas, concerns or just to chat. My door will always be open for communication.
